The next saddest paradox: we can plan a highway for 54 years but not think about what that highway might do to land use and travel patterns in year 55.

To be fair this new section of will likely shave a few minutes off my drive to visit family elsewhere in the state. But that's not a trip that should be privileged over local ! Yet that's what we do, time and again. We privilege long distance travel over day to day efforts of folk just trying to get around town without dying. And we build roads encouraging more long distance , , economic, and consequences be damned

And then we sing our own praises, claiming with dead certainty but zero evidence that these 50 year old mistakes are, in fact, absolute triumphs that will do the exact opposite of what decades of research says they will do.

Yes! We should all be asking our DOTs why the time of drivers is automatically more valuable than the time of everyone outside of cars.
