Re: What are the cutting edge tools and models of today?: Transims – A converged assignment for the Columbus, Ohio region required 25 iterations. Each iteration took a day, so that meant that 25 days were required for 1 traffic assignment. So, it’s not that it didn’t work, just that it wasn’t as usable as other software given project deadlines. Since that time, a different Office at ODOT has chosen TransModeler for our standard traffic microsimulation software, so… tmip.zephyrtransport.org/scrip

Re: What are the cutting edge tools and models of today?: Hello,

I’d like to share two GTFS related libraries developed at PSRC. Both include documentation and examples.

The first is a tool to combine multiple GTFS feeds for a specific day of service that is shared by all input feeds:
github.com/psrc/combine_gtfs_f

The second package provides access to GTFS data as Pandas DataFrames and Geopandas GeoDataFrames and offers methods to extract route and stop level service… tmip.zephyrtransport.org/scrip

Re: What are the cutting edge tools and models of today?: Hey Jim,

AequilibraE has indeed make great strides, and we have recently added transit assignment and will add route choice with path overlaps in the next month or so.

I am also on teh Polaris development team, and can talk a bit about it.  It is pretty sophisticated model system, which micro-simulates agents throughout the demand and assignment portions of the model, including a pretty good DTA… tmip.zephyrtransport.org/scrip

Re: What are the cutting edge tools and models of today? ... I recently released some super-simple open-source Python code for land use modeling that I'm calling "OLAF". I'm hopeful that sharing this might spur some innovation in the field by providing an easy jumping-off point for experimentation with a variety of constrained location choice models using microsimulation techniques...

What are the cutting edge tools and models of today?: Here is a nice Friday afternoon question. Since I don't spend most of my life in the academic or modeling research world I get behind from time to time and am suddenly unaware of the most recent advances in models and applications ready for practice. I know *AequilibaE* has been making great strides and is a great tool for network analysis and assignment primarily on the roadway side… tmip.zephyrtransport.org/scrip

Traffic Impact: Tolls Off Tolls On: Hi list subscribers
Last year I put out a call (on TMIP) for examples of roads, bridges or tunnels from around the world where road tolls had been activated - see below. We wanted to understand the impact on traffic using the facility.
We have completed our research and have prepared a first draft of our paper. Our preference is to avoid academic journals and publish in the 'grey literature'. Notwithstanding, we try to abide… tmip.zephyrtransport.org/scrip

Re: Comparison of CTPP OD flows at different aggregation levels?: Krishnan and Ed are correct and on target. The 2012-2016 and forthcoming 2017-2021 CTPP do NOT include the “extended workplace allocation”. Previous packages (1990?, 2000, and 2006/2010) DID have extended workplace allocation.
Allocation is the Census Bureau term for missing value imputation.
“Standard Workplace Allocation” is Census-speak for “primary imputation”. This process imputes… tmip.zephyrtransport.org/scrip

Re: Comparison of CTPP OD flows at different aggregation levels?: Or put another way--The difference between the small areas and county
totals is because the Census Bureau cannot (easily, my words) geocode
all of the work locations to the Tract, Block Group or Block (including
TAZ and TADs) but will code every work location to a county and state.
The difference between the TADs and TAZs is more likely due to the CTPP
special rounding rules and aggregating rounded… tmip.zephyrtransport.org/scrip
