Guys, you’re not gonna believe this… but data from Lime e-bikes reveals that users overwhelmingly prefer to travel in protected bike lanes instead of shared lanes. Maybe we should build more of them? https://usa.streetsblog.org/2024/09/25/report-shows-again-why-cities-must-build-safe-bike-lanes
@Andres4NY @bikepedantic I saw a bicyclist cruise through a stop sign once. They don't deserve anything nice.
@VirginiaHolloway @Andres4NY @bikepedantic was that you on the zoom call tonight about bikifiying some streets in Somerville?
@bikepedantic sure but the other day I saw a cyclist *not* in a bike lane!
Our area would be very bike-able, but the traffic is insane. People are easily going 50-60 miles an hour on the nearby roads and think nothing of going 30-40 in a residential area. Add in some road rage and drunk driving and oppressive heat and you find most people traveling by car.
The people who do use bikes tend to do so on the sidewalks because the roads are too dangerous.
@bikepedantic surprise, surprise
@bikepedantic in the way that the auto makers pushed for more roads, can "big gig bike" lobby for more cycle paths?
@bikepedantic Sorry, I'm going to need another 13,000 more studies showing exact same overwhelming user preference before I believe it! *builds another door-zone bike lane*
