In Vox, I explained why small business owners consistently exaggerate the share of customers who drive, undercounting those who bike, walk, or ride transit.
Merchants' pro-car bias leads them to fight critical policies like NYC congestion pricing as well as dedicated lanes for bikes and buses -- moves that could boost their bottom line.

The latest War On Cars podcast https://thewaroncars.org/ about women biking gives me complex feelings as a femme presenting woman who chooses to bike whenever I can.
It's necessary that the stories be told, it's necessary that their audience hear them (to the point of my profile pic)...
I would have loved to hear a diverse set of voices of women across the world facing the very same issue. As an American I would have loved to hear experiences like mine told and those of femmes of color as well.
@bikepedantic yeah. Hilarious...😒
@BarbChamberlain take the Canal st Streetcar to Parkway tavern for a poboy, it's a few blocks from the stop, then hop back on and go to City Park to the Botanical Gardens and visit the Peristyle. It's a lovely time of year there!

If you think for one second that people are just going to give up their freedom to own their own vehicle and join a likely privately owned AV system. El.oh.el you're going to see driverless vehicles circling blocks contributing to congestion even more with varying software quality & ability to recognize a human form let alone one with darker skin. No just no. Get them out of our cities until they are heavily regulated & tested on your own dime. Residents are not your crash test dummies. F*$k.off
If it's one thing Americans are terrible at (and there's many) it's sharing anything at all. We had rosey promises from the TNCs too, and look now, curbsides are worse than ever, they contribute to congestion, they cause personal safety issues for non masc people and myriad for those outside of the vehicles having unregulated, undertested drivers. Now imagine a fleet of those musky designed vehicles in assertive mode, take away a sentient driver, add those screens that are on taxis but in IMAX.

@bikepedantic yeah I had to say goodbye to my beloved 13 year old Volvo s40 last summer. It was leaking water somewhere and causing mold and thus making me sick
@bikepedantic the ioniq 5 is the closest thing we have IMHO and I love mine, lower to the ground and more car like than other hatchback EVs. If the trunk was a tad longer it would be there. The Volvo one someone else mentioned. Gives me 80s ford Taurus station wagon vibes but like 100x what my mom paid for hers
