@pedbikeinfo Hello! How does PBIC feel about bike-like vehicles on expanded, protected bike paths to reduce car VMT? The potential for vehicles like the ELF and similar to reduce our carbon footprint is huge. And, they can be locally built/maintained by small independent LBS or similar, boosting economies as well.

@garykrysztopik Hello! The safety and mobility implications of electric and electric-assisted devices (like e-bikes and e-scooters) on what has been conventionally thought of as dedicated ped/bike space is an area of current research interest. There is also a lot to consider in terms of the context around decision making for separating different modes, which would ideally consider user comfort and ability, along with size and speed of other shared users.

@pedbikeinfo Yes, "fast/heavy" and "slow/light" vehicles should be separated for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and very slow/light vehicles. Due to the size/weight/speed of new trucks/SUV's/Hemi cars it is no longer safe for other modes to share the roads (as statistics show). It seems that expanding protected bike paths into "bike path superhighways" for local commuting is a win/win and can provide a safe space for super-efficient vehicles to evolve.

@pedbikeinfo I lived in D.C. in the 1990's and loved the four-lane divided bike paths. It was wonderful to see different modes sharing and getting along just fine. Baby strollers, rollerbladers, casual cyclists and avid cyclists had no problems with speed differences and were able to safely pass each other if/when desired.
