Interesting looking new option: The Lectric XPedition , looking like a Radwagon 4 with nonproprietary wheels & tires, for $1399 (one battery 🔋) or $1699 (two batteries 🔋 🔋) newatlas.com/bicycles/lectric-

Unlike the trek fetch 2, I spy front rack mounts on the frame, too.

@bikepedantic

Looks great, and not too high a price compared to some.

@bikepedantic And as a launch special, for the first month you get seat cushions and running boards for free. Wonder if it has the same "feature" as their other models and Rad bikes of requiring the removal of zip ties to change a rear flat...

@bikepedantic Yeah - the zip ties keep the motor cable snug along the chain stay. It's a tough design choice, I get it - either move the plug so you have less of a lead between the motor/rear wheel and the cable on the bike (so you don't need to cut any zip ties when removing the rear wheel) or figure something else out.

@twopirc company that wasn’t really on my radar til a friend bought one, then they revealed a really good-looking e-trike last week, then this.

@bikepedantic Thanks for sharing this we’ve been in the market. I could darn near visit my in-laws with this.

@ingalls Aventon, a well-regarded ebike maker, is teasing a reveal next week, so stay tuned. Lots of options!

@bikepedantic Roger wilco. I won’t be buying in the next few weeks anyway.

@ingalls are you going over the river and through the woods? The hub motor is not going to do 28mph for 150miles with 450lb on it, but they do sound like a good deal on motors/batteries, for mostly flatland, nice that assist isn't just speed levels now (who wanted that to begin with?) On the higher end, cynergy has a pakyak on sale which I think has an inclinometer in the assist algorithm that sounds like it can be set to flatten hills without thinking about it.
@bikepedantic

@ingalls (granted, they need better hills to test on than 33rd next to powell. The next closest I think of is Franklin and 9th, maybe there's steeper east/SE somewhat? The south end of Corbett, or maybe Hamilton then Campus Dr to OHSU would be my test, or possibly up toward Pittock Mansion from NW. Is there anywhere it gets that steep with 500ft to climb in SE? AFAIK no street runs straight up Mt Tabor and you would need to do that twice?

@enobacon More like along the river, but mostly flat - they live in Hermiston. I figure you could probably make it with a light load to about The Dalles with two batteries running it economically or Biggs with no cargo. My wife is already talking about wanting additional batteries.

@ingalls @bikepedantic lost me with this throttle setup, it's governed by your PAS level, rather than overrides it? Can they fix that in post?

@bikepedantic Nobody complaining about the folding stem? I would expect it has some play, but going to be a challenge to replace vs the quick-release pedals and then that 7-speed 11-28 drivetrain... brake light? IDK about fixing the throttle programming (PAS levels by power not speed deserves a participation trophy I guess.) The tires, brakes, motor, and batteries sound good though, nice frame layout.

@bikepedantic ooh that's a 7-speed freewheel, not able to be upgraded beyond 11-32 without a new hub/motor. 😬
