Seeing people walking in the wonderfully-cleared Mass Ave PBL is not a great argument for more PBLs... it's a great argument for municipal sidewalk clearance program.
@CelloMomOnCars @kinkema in the US, every untreated sidewalk is a potentially actionable violation of the ADA as well
@kinkema at least around here - melting snow from the roadways and discharging to ground or ocean dramatically affects the water quality of our (relatively small) watercourses @bikepedantic
@kinkema back in the big snows of 14-15, i think the cities had to get state permits to temporarily release very salty meltwater directly in to the harbor because of the salt content in the road slush/snow. @bikepedantic

Ah, PBL, not BPL. Totally different things.
@bikepedantic My old city has had good results with their municipal snow removal pilot and they expanded it this winter. It covers ~20% of the cities streets, mostly major streets and retail corridors, but they only do it for snowfalls of 2” or more. I would love to see a similar effort here.

They also have a large snow melt system for the downtown area, which is common in West Michigan, but I don’t recall seeing them used in New England.
