Help me out, public-space nerds: I don’t know much about public bench designs. Please acquaint me with any iconic standard public benches. TIA.
@srepetsk I KNEW DC was gonna come through for me
@bikepedantic honestly, it's a little creepy to me that I knew exactly where to for an answer to your toot
@bikepedantic since you said “iconic”: https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banc_Davioud
@marcprecipice yesss
@bikepedantic I love that they seem designed for conversation.
@bikepedantic from the few open datasets I've seen benches are usually categorized by the owner, material, whether it has a backrest, capacity/seats, sometimes the inscription text. In NYC we're trying to get them all into #OpenStreetMap - incomplete but what we've got so far is on this web map, unfortunately I haven't labeled those other fields yet https://arielsartistry.com/benches/index.html
@akadouri @bikepedantic This micromapping could be done by others as well, like using StreetComplete App. Also 3D OSM renderer use this infos to find the appropriate models 👍
wondering if it might make sense to add the tag `bench:mode=*` to the #OpenStreetMap dataset? `bench:type=*` already exists (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:bench:type).
This would take bench #micromapping to a new level of detail.
@bikepedantic I guess NCPC has you covered? At least for #DCBench https://twitter.com/JWPascale/status/1641877699265191937
