I'm mostly sure that the Berenstain Bears are a product of American gender role sexism, and not the actual root cause of it, but standing by for more data
@zachnfine @bikepedantic When the son took over writing, the books strayed even more squarely into "Christian conservative" territory rather than the older "conservative but occasionally dipped its toes the other way." Which makes sense - the parents were secular, but he most definitely is not.
