Every time I hear someone try to explain how a heat pump works, it sounds like they’ve preceded it with a mammoth bong rip

“It doesn’t pump cold in… it pumps the HEAT OUT!”

@bikepedantic best explanation I have heard (seriously) was from the children's TV presenter Maddie Moate. Basically, think of it as a reverse fridge.

@PipGowenlock i do get how they work, and that’s a good shorthand for it.

And at the same time, say “think of it like a reverse fridge” out loud with just the right amount of confidence that you’ve stumbled onto something wonderful after a big ole rip

@bikepedantic best not to share my description of mechanical heat recovery being an achievable form of Maxwell's Demon.

@bikepedantic it's just like when you boil water, it takes the heat away from the pan, and then you condense the steam in a place you want to make hotter and then put the water back in the pan, dude.

@enobacon dude we need to tell everyone else about this, PROPLE NEED TO KNOW

@bikepedantic Was in a convenience store the other day and the dude just had a window ac sitting on a stool.
At least it was dehumidifying?

@dan that’s awesome. Did he have like a bucket under the drip channel to complete the picture?

@dan @bikepedantic I feel like part of the joke is missing.

"So the window ac says to the bartender.."
