A thing about grieving losing a spouse

People seem to expect that the memories and missing your person is the worst or only part. And that’s obviously fucking hard.

But sometimes harder - and harder to discuss - is the loss of your partner. That partner who complemented you. Took joy in doing the things that you didn’t. Supported you. Etc.

Relearning a new life is really hard.

@bikepedantic It's been eight years for my brother-in-law (technically, my sister-in-law's husband). He had to reinvent much of his life after the death of his wife, find a new way of being there for his three teen girls. She took care of whole sectors of their lives that he now had to navigate and command. Holidays were tough—he hosted one not long after, and we all pitched in, but still, a challenge.

My heart goes out to you.

@bikepedantic Also, helped share the burdens. The only time I could kind of relax is when the boys were at school.

@bikepedantic Doing life together in the smallest ways is everything. I wasn’t on here when your wife died and didn’t know - I’m sorry.
