I miss having access to official accounts to monitor and gripe at, and I miss the the conversations among real people. The latter is just seemingly gone from there, for me at least. Which makes it super easy to be active elsewhere.
@Ardvaark @bikepedantic concur. I put my Twitter on private so I basically can only observe rather than interact beyond my 2k followers, and I don’t post much so as not to feed the beast. It was one or two posts of mine that got noticed outside my sphere and attracted a bunch of haters for no reason that got me to that point. I do miss having direct access to public officials and agencies. Celebs was fun too, but unimportant.
@bikepedantic I made a few good close friends over twitter - I move around every 4 years or so, so it was a good way to meet like-minded people
@bikepedantic One wishes that various governments would become active on the Fediverse, via their own official instances. It seems like such a no-brainer, and sidesteps the entire "verified" problem. I'm not holding my breath, though.
