I enjoy the game where you swap the acronym for the word "person" or "human" in a report draft and then wait to be told you're being too direct and might offend someone important by implying that actual human lives are at stake when they fail to regulate vehicles or build safer streets.

@DrTCombs So I had to look up VRU. That's an awful acronym for a person!! That's a human life not a road user. WTF?!?!

@somcak not just a road user, but a 'vulnerable' one

like somehow it's a character flaw to be walking or biking

it also conjures up images of video games for me. like there are little walking/biking avatars running around on a screen with a little box next to them labeling them VRUs and showing their point value when they get blasted to smithereens

@DrTCombs Yeah. That's just awful. I would absolutely swap that acronym for human/person ever single time.

@somcak it's surprisingly hard to do though. it requires complete restructuring of sentences in most cases. VRU is often used as a descriptor, with the emphasis on whatever is being described. Changing it to human/person -- a noun worth emphasing on its own merit! -- is no small feat.

Still doing it.
