My co-authors and I -- a postdoc with no research funding, a guy who runs a non-profit in Latin America, and a soft-money US academic with almost no access to discretionary $ -- wrote a paper in our free time based on research we conducted and funded out of our own pockets, and now we're gonna be judged for not shelling out a month's pay to make it #openaccess
@DrTCombs I’m so sorry, it should be easier than this. Have you tried explaining this (that the authors conducted the research without any financial support) to the journal and asking them to waive the OA fee? They might.
@DrTCombs @SRLevine I published a journal article I was proud of right around the time I left academia. Briefly thought about publishing it OA…then saw the price tag.
