Q. Does your big promotion mean you'll be able to drive to work now?
A. I actually like biking.
Q. But you at least get a parking spot?
A. No, I don't get a parking spot.
Q. But you could drive if you needed to?
A. Yes, but it wouldn't get me to work any quicker than biking.
Q. But what if it rains?
A. I get rained on.
Q. But wouldn't you rather drive if it's raining?
A. I'd get rained if I drove too.
Q. But...but...but...

is just better.

@DrTCombs congratulations on the promotion! Perhaps you can push to have bike racks installed in your spot and offer up the remaining spots as an incentive to anybody who would like to try bike commuting.

@andrew773 thank you!!

we actually have amazing covered bike parking within spitting distance of the building's front door. the closest car parking spot (for people like me) is 3/4 of a mile away and $9 a day. which is why I laugh at people who think I'm just being a martyr for opting not to drive.

@DrTCombs I had a colleague who took the incredulous "But what about...?" side of this conversation every time he saw my bike at the office, for some years.

The first time I ran into him after a year of covid-induced WFH, he was locking up the ebike he'd acquired and was now using to bike commute.

Sometimes the patient explanations pay off!

@DrTCombs I went out last week and drove because of the threat of thunderstorms. (I don’t mind rain) But I felt sad that I couldn’t ride.

@linnefaulk
Nearly every time I drive for a trip I could bike, it makes me sad!

@DrTCombs Try "if I drove to work I wouldn't have this amazing arse" :-)
