Good article on the headwinds that the new Massachusetts MBTA Communities zoning law will face in Brookline, one of the initial 12 communities that must rezone by end of 2023, and one of only two that is governed by Town Meeting (i still can't believe that "Town Meeting" is a proper noun).

@bikepedantic The fact that they still use Town Meeting in Brookline is insane, and kind of explains a lot.

@mgruar @bikepedantic there really should be a Mass law that forces communities of a certain size to drop town meetings. Just bad parenting at some point

@Kevin @bikepedantic Definitely, although I'd go further and dramatically reform town meeting - at the very least, it should be doable via paper ballots like normal ballot questions. I'm a little biased though, given that the last one I went to took *five hours* to get through seven non-controversial articles, a building purchase, one rejected zoning reorg, and a firearms business zoning law.
