some guy built himself a #cargobike whose spirit animal is a birdcage Maserati and I want no fewer than three. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1447817731990687/permalink/5560855940686825/?mibextid=S66gvF
@mpusto @bikepedantic @dx I test rode one with Rohloff digitally controlled internal gears. It was incredible, felt like pure German overengineering, and cost over $11,000!!! All other bakfiets I have ridden since feel like tractors (including the one I own).
@CargoBikeLife i love that that exists for us to yearn after @mpusto @dx
@CargoBikeLife @mpusto @bikepedantic @dx Test riding one was my problem. I ended up with a Load 60 because the 75 was bigger than we needed (and there's some cost savings). Thankfully, we don't own a car so the cost felt okay when compared to getting a car.
@sdwilsh Load 60 would fit my needs perfectly, i dare not ride one @CargoBikeLife @mpusto @dx
@bikepedantic @CargoBikeLife @mpusto @dx I also was able to buy the dealer floor model at a discount, and R&M will provide a full warranty. That really sealed the deal for me.
Plus, the dealer let me try it for a weekend, and despite heavy rain, I was on it every day running errands and absolutely fell in love with it. It turned me into an avid transport biker now. Hoping to use it more for leisure this year.
@sdwilsh @mpusto @bikepedantic @dx I love how this reflects on the general sustainability of bikes vs cars. A middle class family can generally afford the best and most expensive bakfiets on the market as it costs way less than a middle class car, both in terms of initial and running costs. It’s more reasonable by nature. #notjustbikes said in one video that the running costs of owning a car were the same as buying a brand new bakfiets every year.
@CargoBikeLife @mpusto @bikepedantic @dx I share that @notjustbikes video a lot to people who freak out about how much the bike cost me. They seem to get it, or at least stop freaking out about it 😅
@notjustbikes @CargoBikeLife @dx @bikepedantic @sdwilsh this is why I feel okay considering the Multitinker. We’ve put 7500 miles on our Urban Arrow in 2.5 years, so saved a ton by only having one car
@bikepedantic @dx I’m kinda afraid to ride one because then I might want it. But the box just doesn’t work well for the tall kids we need to carry. Just counting the days until the R&M Multitinker arrives at my local shop for test rides!
