Automated traffic enforcement revenue should go into a fund that:

*pays out an annual dividend to every resident with no tickets, and

*funds victim assistance for people suffering from traffic violence and facing financial hardship

There’s plenty of cash in transpo to fund street safety, if we just made some hard choices. Don’t let leaders off the hook.

The ultimate answer to the charge that “it’s just for generating cash” is to give it all back to people who are good drivers, and people victimized by bad drivers.

ATE tickets cars, not drivers, so the dividend would have to go to households with clean records, not individual residents I guess

@mmb it would simply be all households that don’t have a car registered that gets a ticket. Zero cars, zero tickets.

@bikepedantic maybe also funds for traffic calming plus a "any camera that generates more than XXX tickets/month automatically gets priority for traffic calming and review exemptions"

@bikepedantic the state pool covering uninsurable drivers should be trashed in favor of a fund that solely benefits those hit by uninsured drivers or hit and runs.

@bikepedantic probably need to localize to town. Otherwise lots of towns will refuse to install so their residents are less likely to get tickets and more likely to get money. Need to make sure they're aren't perverse incentives for town.

@bikepedantic Two ideas:

1. The horn is as loud inside the car as outside.
2. Put a six inch metal spike on the steering wheel pointing at the driver.

Careful & considerate driving ensues.
