Your use-case of the day:

My wife’s stepdad, 88 y/o, is a lifelong cyclist. Racing, touring, etc. Last year, he was riding along, and his heart just stopped. 10 minutes of roadside CPR kept him alive til a cop with an AED arrived.

As part of rehab, he’s ridden on a trainer, but that sucks. With my e-brompton, enabled by the motor which ensures his heart rate doesn’t go above his prescribed max, plus the low stepover, he’s back on the streets.

“Life-changing,” reports my mother-in-law.

@bikepedantic Jesus Christ, 10 minutes?! That’s an incredible CPR success story

@Kevin The doctors said the same, 10 minutes might be more perception of my mother in law, who was doing compressions for what must have seemed like an eternity

@bikepedantic still, even if it was half that time that’s amazing and kudos to her for reacting

@Kevin Seriously, huge respect for knowing and being able to do that!! Respect!

...and glad to know yer stepdad is back and rocking on a bike!

@Kevin yeah, it's pretty incredible that she just was able to jump right in. The whole thing was pretty traumatic for her though (and now her only daughter just died), she's struggling with it all

@bikepedantic this is the kind of thing I have to explain to the 'ebikes are cheating' crowd. So many cases where the pedal assist enables people to either start, or continue, their cycling journey

@bikepedantic I'm a vicar in a flat-ish part of England. Several of my 80+ aged parishioners have electric power bikes.
