@bikepedantic "And while 45 percent of the study’s respondents reported owning a bike, 13 percent said they’ve purchased a conventional bike since joining a bike share program. An additional 13 percent said they’ve since purchased an e-bike."

That's more than 1/4. Damn!

@bikepedantic I'm among them!

I also can't help but notice that most people on CaBis have a big goofy smile on their face as they ride them. After five years of daily rides that goofy smile goes away, but the joy of riding a bike still remains

@notthatready back in like 2011, I was pet of a grad student group that did ‘intercept’ surveys of casual users. The folks we talked to were positively glowing. Folks rediscovering biking after decades, describing the stations as like big advertisements for bicycling, one guy lauded DC for ‘exporting’ bicycling

@bikepedantic DC seems suited to "export" bike culture too, given it's transient reputation. Buncha interns come, realize how nice it is to CaBi to work (or as part of a multimodal trip to work). Then when they go elsewhere they have that formative experience in their mind.

All the better if they end up doing policy work, too!
