TIL that the iconic "The Works" branding of the Cambridge DPW came (unaltered to this day) from a 1980 design competition where the winner, Bill Wilcox, took home $500.

@misc @grumpygrumpyowl @cambridge_dsa On the trash trucks, they've covered the big logo with some sort of recycling PSA, but it's still on the doors of every vehicle
I admit, i'm a little disappointed, i was hoping that an employee did it, and perhaps won an internal competition a la the Parks and Rec mural competition (the "murinal"? Jesus Greg Kinnear? anyone?)
