Finally rode the Met Branch Trail extension, which I worked on back in 2014.

Pleased that the access gate to the concrete pit made it to final, because the workers wanted to be able to access the trail.

So if you ever doubt the widespread demand for access to great active transportation facilities… remind yourself that the concrete pit workers wanted and got an access point off of the Mer Branch Trail.

@bikepedantic I've wondered if there was a story behind that gate - thank you for sharing!

And *knock on wood* the protected cycletrack between Franklin and Monroe will be built before school starts, and construction also should be starting soon on the extension up to Takoma.

@bikepedantic I knocked on wood! Last I had heard they were done with the design revamp to make the business owners happy near Monroe (keeping 8th two-way), so at this point it is just a question of the paving schedule (they're repaving 8th before installing the PBLs).

Given how many years it's been "close" I'll believe it when I see it, but I'm trying to remain cautiously optimistic!

@bikepedantic didn't know that, very cool for them! Made an appreciation video since I used to ride the big stinky every day to work and this new section is lovely zdesjardins.smugmug.com/Biking

@bikepedantic I want to ride this trail ! On my list next time I’m in DC. There’s always so much to see
