Shower faucet makers, please hire UX designers. Nobody knows how to get to their desired water temp on the first try with your modern products, and it sucks.

@bikepedantic "OK so we have one spigot that controls the ratio of hot and cold, and one spigot that controls the rate of flow."
"I have a better idea, let's combine them into a single spigot, so that you can't adjust the rate of flow without your water instantly going ice cold because you jiggled it slightly wrong!"

@bikepedantic I just turn in to the max and back it of a quarter inch or so. Definitely have had some confusing ones in hotel showers.

@macjustice This is very common in Europe. Especially with the ones that have an on demand hot water heater at the bathroom.

@macjustice @bikepedantic I have one of these. It's called a "thermostatic mixing valve".

We had to replace our shower after a broken pipe during Boston Snowpocalypse 2015. I insisted on one of these, and the contractor was like "Hmm, I dunno, those cost like twice as much...", and that's true, but it's like $100 vs. $200. Compared to the full cost of the remodel, it was nothing. I have no idea why they are not more common -- they are clearly way way way better.

@bikepedantic Just for maximum weirdness I have for years kept a collection of large plastic OJ containers & fill them from the shower head as the water heats up. My current shower is good for four + jugs. When it's hot I simply dial down to comfortable. Plenty of water for the plants, bike washing & a head start on the inevitable societal collapse.

@bikepedantic There are too many variables like your water heater temp. Some fancy ones have a display temp feature but n one wants to pay for that.
