Hello, @historians.social. I'm migrating over from the h-net instance to see what things are like here. #introduction I'm James Longhurst, a historian of urban and environmental policy; formerly writing bike history, now working on various parking history and #urbanism projects. I'm professor of history at a teaching-intensive public institution in the University of #Wisconsin system. Posting various bike rides, food pics, and gripes about technology.

Went for a shakedown ride, found this big ass fan sitting amongst some curbside castoff stuff. Wouldn’t have found that doing stupid paperwork!

Have i submitted all the overdue paperwork for my kid’s many summer camps? Not yet!

Did I fix the long-dead headlamp on the cargobike which I thought I should try after fixing the steering squeak which came to mind while in the bike shed pondering wall-mount storage hacks? ☑️

Even the dog is looking at me — flitting around working on random stuff that pops in my head, misplacing stuff, avoiding the boring stuff on my to-do list — and thinking, “you need to get screened for ADHD”

Some people commute to the SF Bay area from Nevada because they can't afford to live close to where they work. Such lower-income #supercommuters are #gasoline #superusers, and prioritising them for subsidies to switch to #EVs would give a quick and big bang for the decarbonisation buck (as well as saving the supercommuters big money in the long term).
