Got a slightly unhinged message on LinkedIn from someone very passionately arguing to me that expanding roadways are killing people and the planet…

my friend, what energy am I putting out that you think a) I disagree, and b) I have some sort of power to stop it?

We should stop saying that machine-learning algorithms are 'trained.' They aren't capable of learning, of critical thought, of creativity. They aren't being 'trained.'

They operate on probabilities based on data fed into it. They hopefully spit out better answers with more data calibrating their models. That's not 'training.'

And my peer-reviewing conscience is clear for another year, two hours, and six minutes.
