What are the most important “Missing Links” to complete in the Sydney public transport network ? (The shorter and less expensive to remediate the better)

Follow

@walk_sydney the missing station entrances (low hanging fruit and already one of your topics I know)

Parramatta to Epping

Some kind of fancy bus line Rockdale-Brighton, down the coast, Taren Point to Caringbah (& then Cronulla). From Caringbah, buses to Rockdale are already often faster than trains because, no surprise, they don't have to go west to Sutherland. But current lines are infrequent and little known.

1. Missed opportunity: Sydney Metro West stopping at Strathfield North rather than Strathfield.

Strathfield would have provided so many more connections across the train network. It would have made, for example, a single change trip from Ashfield to Sydney Olympic Park possible at Strathfield. Or Croydon -> Strathfield to Five Dock.

2. Related to the above: extending all buses that terminate at Burwood to Strathfield, divert all buses running through Burwood to Strathfield.

3. Also related to the above: Extending the Parramatta to Olympic Park via Wentworth Point light rail to Strathfield, with a branch line to Newington.

The combination of 1,2, and 3 would make Strathfield a multimodal transport hub in the middle of Sydney.

Not related:

4. With the Southwest Metro taking over a chunk of the T3 line east of Bankstown, that leaves a length of track from Lidcombe to Bankstown.

Perhaps it's time to consider a new Hornsby to Bankstown north-south service?

@jroper @walk_sydney Two more from me:

1) A station on the Bondi Junction line for the art gallery. (Seriously, the train practically runs under the building!)

2) Two tracks from Normanhurst to Wahroonga. The T9 would run as a loop service, rather than terminating at Hornsby. This would allow for a single seat journey from, say, Gordon to Pennant Hills.

@jroper @walk_sydney And two more. Two cheap, one more expensive.

Cheap: more frequent bus services, especially in Western Sydney.

Below is the morning timetable for the 806 bus from Horsley Park to Parramatta. During the morning peak.

In some cases, the gap between services is more than 30 minutes. How can people rely on a service like this to get to work or school.

Compared to building a new metro tunnel, upgrading services like this to a 10-minute frequency costs a pittance.

Cheap: More frequent commuter rail services to the Central Coast and Newcastle.

More expensive: a fourth track on the T9 Northern Line. That would allow two tracks dedicated to Sydney commuter services, and two for freight, Intercity, interstate, and Central Coast and Newcastle services.
