Can any recent international relocaters recommend a shipping company? Planning to ship two bike boxes with bicycles and as much extra stuff as I can fit in...

Shipping Aus to Germany 😊

#shipping

@michcampbell following for answers! From what we've looked up so far, buying extra luggage on the plane is cheaper... if we can deal with it logistically.

@jroper ooh where are you moving?! The price of extra luggage seems to have gone up a bunch (to Europe at least), and I can't manage two bikes on my own 😣 hard to find reasonable shipping for a small amount of stuff!

@michcampbell We're doing France to Canada (strange turn of plans) so yeah only about half the flight. I don't think we can manage a baby and 6 suitcases either but still trying to convince my partner of that!

@jroper exciting! The extra luggage restrictions to Canada and the us are way better for some reason - from aus to Europe it's minimum 400 per extra bag 😣 but yes, 6 bags and a baby sounds like a bit much! Is this a permanent move to Canada?

@michcampbell even that, if you can get it to 21/23kg, it seems hard to beat vs shipping...

At least a year - we were looking for postdocs in Europe but my partner was hunted by a very good lab in his field in Toronto and it seemed hard to pass up. I think we'll extend depending whether I find something there too or not, after a bit of time with the baby :)

@jroper oh wow, cool opportunity! Hopefully something good turns up for you, too. In the meantime, hanging with baby seems like a nice way to pass the time
