The incoming GOP majority is going to try and discredit the work of the Jan. 6 Committee. Remember the courage of honorable conservatives like Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger when the extremists begin their assault. They had nothing to gain by opposing their party and Trump, and everything to lose. But they stood up anyway for the rule of law and for democracy.

As Irving Kristol might have said, “A content moderator is a free speech absolutist mugged by a Nazi”

This is a good read on why an education that includes the humanities is critical. Seeing universities so focused on STEM & treating humanities as an afterthought does a disservice to society and threatens democracy.

Love this ad from the UK.

What a crappy country. Congress imposes a bill on railroad workers because of their importance to the country but won't let the same railroad workers have sick leave so that shareholders can continue to reap extraordinary benefits on the backs of workers. The 43 GOP senators + Joe Manchin should be ashamed of themselves.

Amazing: The Boring Company named one of its machines Godot, after a Samuel Beckett character who is always coming soon but never arrives. Another is named Prufrock, also not a reference to someone who gets anywhere very fast. It’s like the whole thing was a joke… 2/2.

Tribes have long pushed the government to pay closer attention to contamination in the fish they eat. But that hasn’t happened.

So Oregon Public Broadcasting and ProPublica did our own testing, and we found what public health agencies have not: Native tribes in the Columbia River Basin face a disproportionate risk of toxic exposure through their most important food.

To celebrate 1K followers here, something I have been wanting to figure out for a long time: a slippy #Mapbox map with an overlaid #D3 #SVG map synced to it: svelte.dev/repl/2578120142f44b

This means: Mapbox base layers and controls + all the D3 geo goodness like great circles, geoCircles and curved line interpolations!

Of course, built with #Svelte

Thanks to @colby for setting up the server. I was able to transition my old mastodon account to the new one without issues. The one downside is that the folks who follow you can't be imported/exported which makes it a bear for migrating between instances. Hopefully the Mastodon folks are working on this feature to reduce friction.
