Ok #history buffs. What is this thing we found in our yard?
Context: our neighborhood was built in the 1940s. The area was a Union Army bivouac site during the Civil War. We routinely find random metal things in the yard from the construction of the neighborhood. But this seems a good bit older and more worn. It's almost 4" long.
@DrTCombs It would be nice to have an idea of the size. A ladle? A Campagnolo tool for removing pre-1970 crank bolts?
@DrTCombs Well, that, plus the curved handle (if it is a handle), makes the ladle theory unlikely. I'm guessing cast iron, but I'm not even sure about that.
@DrTCombs I think it may have been a plumbus.
@serial
Is that like a flux capacitor?
@DrTCombs It can be. It's a multi-purpose tool with surprising applications.
@DrTCombs
Well, Roman tools looked pretty much like ourtime tools. Maybe those are used in the same way. Functional design...
@DrTCombs From Rome, GA?
@DrTCombs This could change EVERYTHING
@DrTCombs Iron crucible for melting lead for bullets?
I’m not a history buff, but it looks like a ladle. Maybe for a bucket in a well?
Google thinks it's a Roman tent peg, but given that we're in central NC, I'm not convinced...
