This is much better than two years ago when APA was all giddy about "clearing the runway" for flying taxis

@DrTCombs APA really moves with the tides. Remember when they opposed CA statewide zoning reform?

@bikepedantic I had forgotten that one. Probably on purpose.

@DrTCombs @bikepedantic Professional associations exist at least in part to make sure change doesn’t happen too fast and unseat those at the top of the profession.

@PedestrianError @DrTCombs and the APA example was an extremely acute example. IIRC, they passionately defended the process of planning (as performed by their local members).

(Tho I don’t remember now if it was the chapter or national. Either way, let your AICP lapse everyone)

@bikepedantic @DrTCombs Already did. I’m noticing more somewhat interesting job listings that prefer or require it since I did, but that’s probably just because I don’t have it anymore. I’m increasingly not willing to pay the man and get reinstated if a future job wants it. If anything their desire for AICP should be a sign I don’t really want the job.

@PedestrianError "Achieved and maintained AICP from XXXX-YYYY" worked for my wife (with a CPA) @DrTCombs

@bikepedantic @DrTCombs Well except it’s actually something I’m kind of embarrassed about. I’d prefer to pretend I never sold out to credentialism and the material comfort of a white collar lifestyle funded by 40 hours a week of banging my head against the wall and barely even slowing down the shuffling of papers that ultimately led to highways getting widened.

@bikepedantic @DrTCombs I know some of my peers have managed to find some success & satisfaction in planning and I don’t mean to denigrate that, but for me personally my decade+ foray into trying to reform the system from within only left me more frustrated than ever and I wish I’d done something more risky/rewarding with my peak career-building years.
