Good news: Jivan Sobrinho-Wheeler declares candidacy for council, plans to “focus on making Cambridge a leader on issues including housing and child care affordability, sustainability, safe streets and transportation.”

In other council news, I made my first local campaign donation here, to @marcgov, because he’s awesome. secure.actblue.com/donate/marc

Probably giving to Burhan Azeem next

@bikepedantic Jivan was great, very excited to see him back on the council. Hopefully he can take Mallon's seat

@DemonHusky I only moved here after the election, but i do remember Alanna recently praising him for his formative role in something big & good (parking minimums? AHO reform?).

Starting to think about my ranking... In pencil:

1. Azeem
2. Jivan
3. McGovern
4. Siddiqui
5. Zondervan
6. Toner
7. Simmons
8. Nolan

@DemonHusky No way i'm even ranking Carlone, he's a piece of shit.

My 6 thru 8 are just sort of the dregs. Toner/Simmons seem OK on housing, simmons esp a villain on transpo. Nolan occasionally OK on biking, but that's it. I could rank them entirely differently 10 mins from now.

@bikepedantic Last election I did 1. Azeem 2. Jivan, mostly on the fact that it's rare for an incumbent to lose and wanted my vote to be most useful, but in the end they basically traded seats.

I could talk at length about the vote counting system we have...

@DemonHusky Azeem took the lead on parking reform, and just feel like i gotta reward that.

McGovern is actually my sentimental favorite (he's good on everything, plus i'm friends/neighbors with his sister), but feel like he's very safe.

@bikepedantic Azeem, Mallon, Toner, Zondervan were all elected in the last round of votes, with Jivan being the last out. McGovern and Carlone were elected in the second-last round.

I'd say that is probably the crowd that is most at-risk.

Basically pointless to vote for Siddiqui, she is a shoe-in unless something drastic happens.

@DemonHusky @bikepedantic I think Toner is locked in this time, hopefully all of the anti-bike/transit people waste their resources supporting him.

@kinkema @DemonHusky someone whispered a rumor that Carlone wasn't running? that would certainly put them on defense

@bikepedantic @kinkema 2 open seats would be something. Jivan could probably get one of them. Would be interesting to see who else runs if there is so much open space.

@kinkema @bikepedantic If you assume Toner took Toomey's seat, Toomey was the last elected in 2019. So not much room for growth unless he siphons from someone else

@bikepedantic @DemonHusky I think my only swap would be putting Simmons above Toner. She is a very good ally for housing where as Toner hasn't been in favor of the AHO expansion and keeps supporting measures to delay/weaken it.

@kinkema @DemonHusky Haven't paid close enough attention, but this sounds right to me. A more strategic vote might be:

so a more strategic vote might be

1. Azeem
2. Jivan
3. Zondervan
4. McGovern
5. Siddiqui
6. Simmons
7. Toner
8. Nolan

subject to change based on who else enters the race, and esp if they are better or worse than toner/nolan
