Hot Take: Normalize taking sick time when you're not "sick." Just when you need a nice afternoon in the sunshine.

Except for the fact that they require a license from the state to operate, a loan from a major financial institution to purchase, insurance to shield users from the cost of their harms, and can be used to collect and share driver data without their full consent, cars represent freedom, baby!

As a Canadian, I think we should simply replace our human monarchy with a cat monarchy
- looks great on stamps and coins and framed photos in government offices
- quite capable of carrying out an entirely ceremonial role
- never says anything offensive
- naturally regal attitude
- very high approval ratings
- tabloid magazines about them would be much better

@bikepedantic I'm not too familiar with Boston/Cambridge so I figured I'd run the numbers. At $1300 month and expecting usage 22 days (assuming only used on business days), you'd need to charge roughly $60 for an 8 hour stay, or around $8-10 an hour. It looks like only 30min meters directly nearby costing $1.50 or a surface lot with a 2-hour max for $3/hour. Only a mile away is the Green St Garage, which only costs $19 for 8 hours, or $30 for 24 hours. Municipal is crazy cheap comparatively!

That’s a scorching $1300 per month (with 20% down!).

And how much do we charge at the meters again? Or for a residential permit? Or a curb cut for a driveway?

“I’ve read every study and report I could find that looked specifically at the economics of bike lanes since 1984 — 32 research articles, to be exact. The results show that making streets friendlier for bikes — and sidewalks friendlier for pedestrians — is actually good for business. The rise of “complete streets” and “road diets,” as urban planners call them, has been a huge boon to businesses in cities.” businessinsider.com/bike-lanes
