When you're handed a hammer, you go looking for things to nail https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/05/30/metro/federal-officials-reject-mbta-worker-safety-plan-calling-it-insufficient-letter-eng/
New:

rear brake system (likely)
more stuff i've probably forgotten
Refused:
saddle
fenders
kickstand
some of this stuff i could do myself but don't want to, some i could do and think i could live without doing at all... but it's all legit, and I'm happy to cut a check to our great local shop.
Hello, @historians.social. I'm migrating over from the h-net instance to see what things are like here. #introduction I'm James Longhurst, a historian of urban and environmental policy; formerly writing bike history, now working on various parking history and #urbanism projects. I'm professor of history at a teaching-intensive public institution in the University of #Wisconsin system. Posting various bike rides, food pics, and gripes about technology.
Went for a shakedown ride, found this big ass fan sitting amongst some curbside castoff stuff. Wouldn’t have found that doing stupid paperwork!
Have i submitted all the overdue paperwork for my kid’s many summer camps? Not yet!
Did I fix the long-dead headlamp on the cargobike which I thought I should try after fixing the steering squeak which came to mind while in the bike shed pondering wall-mount storage hacks? ☑️
Some people commute to the SF Bay area from Nevada because they can't afford to live close to where they work. Such lower-income #supercommuters are #gasoline #superusers, and prioritising them for subsidies to switch to #EVs would give a quick and big bang for the decarbonisation buck (as well as saving the supercommuters big money in the long term).

Anyway, nice end to a week of disasters at work and fighting the bureaucracy of death, but some big fatherhood wins
