copilot trick of the day: providing (good) translations into other languages.

I have a website with a small amount of text, and a series of separate JS files with the text in different languages. If I add text for a new tooltip in the English one, I can go to the Persian one and Copilot suggests the same thing in the same spot, translated.

Ofc chatgpt is a decent translator, but the integration with the structure of my project is just amazing, and saves some tedious work.

@SydneyCyclewaysFan thanks I didn't know about that one. Personally it's just Doncaster to High St (I know it's only 200m but all these little patches add up). But when I read Anzac Parade I was thinking of the whole part I'm familiar with, basically Todman to Gardener's Rd, as a legible main road route past the shops. May not be justified, but sounded cool.

@SydneyCyclewaysFan was so excited about Anzac Parade until I looked at it more closely, it's all south of uni for me. Still dropped some pins.

💬🚲️ Consultations on two game-changing cycleways opened this week 🤩

- The Cooks to Cove Greenway in the Inner West will connect the Cooks River path with the Bay Run & Rozelle: yoursay.innerwest.nsw.gov.au/g

- The Anzac Parade Cycleway in the Eastern Suburbs will introduce a whole new area to the safe cycleway network: yoursay.randwick.nsw.gov.au/ac

Make sure to have your say! (particularly the Anzac Parade one as it's already received a lot of negative comments)

@psimonk @BrentToderian @dublincyclingcampaign Yeah I think that's a good summary of other practical/political reasons. The first 3 are disingenous as reasons for 'more desirable' overall, but they are good reasons for 'more neglected' and therefore likely 'more posiive return on investment at present', in cities like mine.

Totally irrelevant but I'm just really proud of my little sister

Though I'm disappointed she didn't include my contribution to her degree, which was listening to long voice messages about stats problems, translating them to paper, and sending her help 😅

Also I strongly disagree with ever characterising a public transport network by distance/time to get to a stop. Only door-to-door travel time is what matters.

(Sorry, I'm feeling a bit argumentative today, but I do appreciate the discussion.)

@ajsadauskas @BrentToderian @dublincyclingcampaign I think what you're describing is the convenience of access by different modes for the individual. I get that, it's why I cycle a lot myself. But I understand the NSW hierarchy, at least, to be about road/travel corridor space allocation where space is at a premium, which is slightly different.

@BrentToderian @dublincyclingcampaign On the other hand cycling uses less energy and creates less pollution, perhaps that is part of the considerations.

This isn't something I'm super set on, just been mulling over it lately.

Nor does it really matter in practice as there is plenty of space to be taken from cars, and when our city does take positive action, it usually improves things for both groups at once.

@BrentToderian @dublincyclingcampaign In NSW we have (theoretically!) this same hierarchy. But I question why they both place cyclists above public transport. I think it's reflecting something about vulnerability, but it doesn't really make sense to me as an overall 'more desirable', from an external perspective, in all situations. On heavy demand routes and in dense areas, public transport is more space efficient than cycling, both in motion and in parking space required.

@Transportist you can, we just laugh about it!

AFL does have passes in all directions but it's a very chaotic and loose game compared to american football. That's why it's so exciting when it actually works though, I reckon.

@Transportist I feel like I've seen you post about NRL sometimes. Have you got into Australian sports since moving here? If so, can I persuade you that AFL is the best one?

@UrbanEdm @straphanger I think they do have extra injury potential for the rider themselves compared to a bike, irrespective of traffic, but people should be allowed to take that risk.

The complaints of extra risk to pedestrians feel like motornormativity and status quo bias, as well as the lack of space as you say .... but I haven't really looked at the numbers.

@straphanger Of course, most of the injuries and all of the crowded sidewalks are really due to assigning too much space to cars, but we'll just ignore the elephant on the room.

@jakecoppinger it's funny, I find that Amsterdam video actually quite offputting. Bikes may be smaller than cars but they still take up an awful lot of space compared to a bus stop, and the extra time to travel down to the garage and walk miles of aisles is not appealing. I guess people are using it, so it must be an efficient enough option for them.

@SydneyCyclewaysFan thank you, that was kinda heartwarming, in some ways.

It's a shame no bloke with an equally plummy voice was making videos saying the commercial vehicles are the useful ones, what are all these private cars doing here anyway?

@tokyobybike oh gosh, I hope people stick together in not giving in to it.

@Bucket Nice! I think screens at stops would be an absolute gamechanger. I heavily use the apps that tell you when the next buses are coming, but lots of people still don't know about them.
