I used to think of blocked and as death by a thousand paper cuts, but I've realized the more appropriate analogy is Russian Roulette. If you or ride a bike, you never know which time you have to "just go around" is going to be the time that gets you killed.

Not for nothing, this is why I get irate whenever my town treats bike and ped infrastructure obstructions as non-urgent.

@DrTCombs I keep thinking about two boys who suffered life changing injuries crossing a street that had been identified for crossing improvements, but the project had to wait months for funding. I feel like cities need to implement interim safety measures in locations like these. Reduce the speed limit, close one lane in each direction (it was a 4 lane + 2WLTL arterial), etc. Why do pedestrians have to give up their lives to drivers' convenience when we know a situation is unsafe?

@DrTCombs

I remember that successful corporate executive on that talk show that lost his arms and legs from an infected paper cut.

Since 2010, #Oakland has not issued any tickets to delivery companies for blocking bike lanes.

Fortunately, they will soon try to improve loading zones in a few neighborhoods by adding meters and automated tracking

@kevindalley @DrTCombs

Drivers in #Oakland park blocking bike lanes in front of every damn smoke shop, then double park blocking more lanes.

It's past time to close the smoke shops. All they do is peddle death.

@DrTCombs That must be worldwide problem. I hate when random petrolheads explain to pedestrians and bicyclers that they are bitching too much and are too lazy to just go around.
