How I got bike lanes into the City's transportation plan:

1. Buy measuring wheel on eBay
2. Find streets wide enough for bike lanes & just need re-painted
3. Make my own map of proposed routes with bike lanes
4. Publish map as "BIke Richmond" ($10 to register bikerichmond.org).
5. Share map with City's consultants, who add "Bike Richmond's recommended bike lanes" into long term plan.

I bet the hill starts on this are really difficult.

I'm seeing a disheartening growth in interest in #AdvisoryBikeLanes in the US, and am here to caution #cities & #DOTs against them. We already know our #drivers don't respect conventional painted #BikeLanes. It's a bit silly to think they'll know what to do with advisory bike lanes, especially when we install them on #streets built to accommodate #speeding (i.e., nearly every US street).

Ooh, look at the UK's electricity sources this morning: only 12% is generated by fossil fuels. Of course it's because the weather is favourable, but the point is that we already have the capacity to do this, and it's only getting better. #energy #electricity #climate (Data from the WhenToPlugIn app)
