Hi Mastofriends. I need some help. I'm looking for information about a few very specific cities' #COVIDStreets interventions. Specifically, I need details about:
#Trikala #Greece
#Leicester & #Middlesborough #UK
#Katowice #Poland
If you're familiar with any of those cities' efforts to reallocate #Street space during the #Pandemic, please let me know! We're plugging gaps in our #ShiftingStreets #COVID #mobility #database.
reply in the thread, or at https://unc.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eJsW9GTfReLKZr8
Thank you!!!

Hello everyone,
Since we are new here on Mastodon, we would like some help finding academics and other professionals with an interest in #citizenscience. So give us a boost, if you can. Thanks! 🙂
For those that don't know us yet: Scivil is the center for citizen science in Flanders (Belgium). We gather and spread #citsci knowledge, and bring actors and projects closer together.
We're also active beyond Flanders & within the EU, so we mainly 'toot' in English. Bye!

@colby totally agree
in fact I came across someone who does something very close to that with AI to 'improve' images of existing locations:

E-bikes are a sustainable (and fun!) way to get around that reduce traffic deaths, noise pollution, and carbon emissions.
Our city needs to be incentivizing more people to get and use e-bikes via vouchers/rebates to buy e-bikes and subsidies for bikeshare.https://www.npr.org/2023/01/02/1146543157/e-bikes-could-be-a-more-affordable-way-to-reduce-emissions
I had a play (yes, I'm late to the party) with some AI tools to consider #urbandesign . What do you think?

How I got bike lanes into the City's transportation plan:
1. Buy measuring wheel on eBay
2. Find streets wide enough for bike lanes & just need re-painted
3. Make my own map of proposed routes with bike lanes
4. Publish map as "BIke Richmond" ($10 to register bikerichmond.org).
5. Share map with City's consultants, who add "Bike Richmond's recommended bike lanes" into long term plan.

Signed up to do #RideLondon again! Last year I rode it for Amnesty. this year I'm doing it for the Bike Project, an amazing charity that supports refugees with donated bikes. I love their work and hope you'll sponsor me :)
As with last year, I'm going to ride from Birmingham to London the day before and ride home again the day after. 600km in a weekend :)
sponsor me here: https://ridelondon.thebikeproject.co.uk/steve-lawson - I've got a few months to get back to pre-Cancer fitness levels!
I'm seeing a disheartening growth in interest in #AdvisoryBikeLanes in the US, and am here to caution #cities & #DOTs against them. We already know our #drivers don't respect conventional painted #BikeLanes. It's a bit silly to think they'll know what to do with advisory bike lanes, especially when we install them on #streets built to accommodate #speeding (i.e., nearly every US street).
Ooh, look at the UK's electricity sources this morning: only 12% is generated by fossil fuels. Of course it's because the weather is favourable, but the point is that we already have the capacity to do this, and it's only getting better. #energy #electricity #climate (Data from the WhenToPlugIn app)
“The researchers concluded that predictions of unbearable traffic as a result of reallocating space away from private vehicles were, in most cases, alarmist. People adjusted their behavior in ways that traffic models did not accurately predict.”

Names for #mobility interventions do make such a difference.
Here in the UK we have "drop-off zones" ... which is dull and uninspiring.
On the other hand, I've just learned that in Belgium, they have "kiss & ride" zones.
I want one of THEM!
I shall do my best to get one of these created at my local station in London.
Very exciting to see our Telraam devices for traffic counting, making a difference to #citizenscience and #localengagement between residents and transport authorities in #SanFrancisco #SlowStreet

Hi, all. I recently moved here to #projectmushroom #spore. Looking forward to connecting.
I am not in the climate fight
to prolong bad habits
that got us into this mess:
competition,
greed,
indifference to the natural world
& to those outside our tribes.
I am in this climate fight to help build something better:
eco over ego &
fellowship of life / humanity.
